Many of the arrangements of the white swing bands were written by black musicians. This was hidden in a social climate of segregation. This concert by Benny Goodman in the venerable Carnegie Hall was the first time that black and white musicians shared the stage of a concert hall. The driving pulse of Gene Krupa's drums thrilled and inspired me.
