The return of the pirate queen Granuaile (Grace O'Malley) symbolises the Irish struggle for freedom from foreign rule and colonialism. A traditional song given new Gaelic lyrics by Padraigh Pearse in the run-up to the 1916 Easter Rising, sung by Sinead O'Connor.
