a node of life

by Rolf Thärichen

My daughter Lena is "defending" her doctoral thesis at Utrecht University and I enjoy sharing these moments with her. She takes questions from the professors for 45 minutes, and they are tough. I don't understand the details, but I experience the clear answers of a woman who knows what she is talking about at every moment.

A sentence from my teacher Wolf Büntig comes to mind: "Children are a burden, but it's worth it!"

And how!

What great happiness to be able to accompany such a life as it unfolds, develops, blossoms, takes shape and gains strength. I feel pride and trust in her and her generation. These people will not leave this world as it is, they will mould and shape it in a human way.
