Glebe House / Donegal

by Rolf Thärichen

A country house in an incredible garden, the diversity and intensity of which seems to reach into every nook and cranny of the visitor's soul, no matter how small or hidden.

The house is home to Derek Hill's collection, just as he has organised it in his everyday surroundings. In the doorway to the kitchen there are 30 Japanese colour woodcuts (which could fill a small museum of their own), in the kitchen a ceramic plate designed by Picasso and in the guest room a painting by Oskar Kokoschka. All this not as an art-historical trophy show, but as a testimony to a cosmopolitan, conscious mind that has gathered together the things that have touched, fascinated and inspired him on his travels as an artist. I have never seen anything like it ...
