In the footsteps of a genius

by Rolf Thärichen

My journey to Ireland this year took me via Brittany. This gave me the opportunity to visit the Château de Clos Lucé on the Loire, where Leonardo da Vinci spent the last three years of his life at the invitation of King Francis I of France.

In the château’s grounds, several of Leonardo’s constructions – which were futuristic for their time – have been erected, and inside the château, visitors can admire, amongst other things, reconstructions of his studios.

What a lucky opportunity

  • to immerse myself in the atmosphere of that era and be inspired by it,
  • to discover how Leonardo’s creative thinking and work spanned a broad spectrum between technology and the liberal arts,
  • and to realise just how fertile the ground is on which my activities at MakerLab Murnau can flourish
